Proper hospital staff needed

Dear Editor,

In relation to the incident that occurred at the New Amsterdam hospital in which the patient died without properly seeing the doctor, this is nothing new at public hospitals. How can you run a hospital with only two doctors working shifts, what do you expect to happen?

The hospital at Suddie in the Essequibo also suffers from this problem and many of the health clinics around Guyana only offer the services of a medic, many of these medics after a while actually believe that they are doctors and are doing all sorts of illegal operations on unsuspecting patients. If government offers proper salaries it will get good doctors to work for it.

Yours faithfully,

Bryan Mackintosh
