ANDREW `Six Head' Lewis has been given a house lot at the Eccles Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, in keeping with the promise by President Bharrat Jagdeo after the boxer in February became the first Guyanese to win a world title.

Documents were yesterday signed between Lewis and the Ministry of Housing and Water enabling the release to him of a plot of residential land at Lot 76 AA, Eccles Housing Scheme.

Hours after Lewis won for Guyana the World Boxing Association welterweight boxing championship in Las Vegas on February 18 last, President Jagdeo declared Monday February 19 a national holiday in honour of the Guyanese hero and promised that the government would present him a house and land.

On Saturday Lewis was taken by Housing Ministry officials on a tour of residential schemes at Meadowbrook, Eccles and Diamond and asked to make his pick.

He chose Eccles and the signing yesterday between Ms Myrna Pitt, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority, and Lewis was done at the Ministry of Housing and Water in Georgetown.

Housing and Water Minister, Mr Shaik Baksh was among those witnessing the signing.

Following the signing of the documents, Pitt handed over the agreement of sale to the World Champ stating: "...On behalf of the Central Housing and Planning Authority, I wish to make this presentation to you in recognition of your remarkable achievement of bringing our country's first international boxing title."

Minister Baksh said the signing of the agreement of sale and the affidavit of purchase yesterday will pave the way for the processing of the transport for the land.
