Guyana's heavyweight boxing title hope Andre Purlette won a morale boosting comeback fight on Saturday night in the United States, his first since suffering his first loss earlier this year.

According to Fightnews.com website, Purlette knocked out Joseph Lenhart in the fifth round to improve his record to 33 wins (30 knockouts) and one loss.

Lenhart who lost 12 of 22 previous fights, with nine wins, was no match for the heavy punching Guyanese and was saved by referee Brian Garry at 2 minutes 28 seconds of the round, in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Purlette was stopped by Cuban Eliecer Castillo inside five rounds in January and obviously was given a hand picked opponent for his comeback and capitalised fully.

He easily dominated his opponent with his superior boxing skills and trapped Lenhart in the corner and unleashed a non-stop barrage of at least 20 unanswered punches, before the referee intervened.
