Matthew Khan romped to his second consecutive Youth Week table tennis men's singles crown with a 4-0 whipping of Paul Meusa as the curtains came down on the National Sports Commission sponsored annual Independence anniversary tournament on Wednesday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Khan triumphed 11-6, 11-6, 11-2, 11-7 in the battle that was not while Dennis France destroyed the ambitions of Christopher Franklyn in the third placed play-off game.

Although clearly not at his best France won 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9.

The women's singles saw Jody Ann Blake defeating Desiree Lancaster 11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-7 while Michelle John stopped Trenace Lowe 11-4, 7-11, 5-11, 11-3, 11-8.

The men's doubles final proved to be another romp for Khan and southpaw Raymond Baksh as they won 11-5, 11-5, 11-7 over Andrew Daly and Michael Waithe. Third place went to Meusa and Franklyn who defeated Jonathan Sankar and Tristan Gaime.

The women's doubles was won by Blake and La Toya Howes. The pair defeated Lancaster and Lowe 11-7, 9-11, 5-11, 12-10, 12-10 while John and Delisa Cummings won from Hickerson and Rhonda Farley in the third placed play-off.

The mixed doubles title went to Lancaster and Franklyn who beat France and Blake 10-12, 8-11, 11-3, 11-7, 9-11 while Khan and John defeated Daly/Howes for third place.

Daly, the Guyana Police Force and Malteenoes Sports Club top player, won the `B' class defeating Baksh 11-7, 3-11, 11-1, 11-6 with Meusa defeating Sankar for third place while Baksh got the better of Sankar 11-5, 6-11, 12-10, 10-12, 8-11 in the `C' class final.

Third was Shaka Forde who beat Blake.

Sankar emerged winner of the boys under-17 event with a 9-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-6, 8-11 win over Baksh with Forde again placing third with a five set triumph over Gaime.

The girls under-17 final was won by Blake who defeated John 11-9, 11-8, 13-15, 11-7. Third place went to Cummings who beat Howes.

Zach Gonsalves took the boys under-15 title with a 11-6, 10-12, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9 win over Gaime with Conan Belle defeating Adam Alves for third while Lowe defeated John 13-11, 12-14, 8-11, 9-11 in the girls under-15 final.

Conan Bell defeated Nico Rodrigues 6-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 12-10 in the boys under-13 event with Remy Rodrigues edging Kadeem Davis for third.

John gained revenge on Lowe winning at 7, 8 and 5 in the girls under-13 final with Varsha Panday defeating Sherilyn Inniss for third.

Steven Seepersaud won from Davis 3-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8 in the boys under 11 final with Steffon Kellman third while Varsha Panday defeated Geniane Goliath 11-8, 11-4, 11-7 in the girls under-11 final.

Shaquille Davis defeated Shaquille Williams at 6, 7 and 8 in the boys under-9 final while Adielle Rosheuvel won from Britney Prescod at 3, 9 and 6 in the girls under-9 event.

Sankar/Baks won the boys doubles beating Baksh/Forde at 9, 6 and 8 while Blake/Lowe defeated John/ Cummings at 6, 10 and 7 in the girls doubles final.

The junior mixed doubles final was won by Sankar. Lowe who beat Baksh/Blake 11-13, 11-9, 12-10, 12-10.
