Burnette fails to qualify for 800m final

Guyana's Marion Burnette failed to qualify for the 800 metres final as competition in the Commonwealth Games continued yesterday.

Burnette, competing in the Heat Two with favourite Maria Mutola finished fourth. The first three from each heat and the two fastest losers qualified for today's final.

In Heat One the winner was Australia's Tamsyn Lewis who finished in two minutes 00.55 seconds. Diane Cummins of Canada placed second in a time of 2:00.85 while England's Charlotte Moore 2:00.95 finished third and Susan Scott of Scotland fourth in 2:01.03.

Mozambique's Mutola won Heat Two in a time of 2:01.59 with Agnes Samaria of Namibia second in 2:02.50.

England's Jo Fenn finished third in 2:03.04 ahead of Burnette who clocked 2:03.52.
