CHAIRMAN of Number 63 Beach Development Committee, Mr Krishendat Persaud has announced that construction of six benabs (huts) with seating accommodation has been completed at the Corentyne, Berbice tourist site.

He said four of the structures cost $1.5M and a sum of $800,000 was expended on the other two by Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL).

The same company also expended $100,000 on painting all six before they were handed over to the Committee in time for Easter.

The project to build them is part of a plan to create a major tourism attraction, through a joint effort with Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and the emphasis is on enhancing the location, Persaud explained.

He said, recently, DDL added four sanitary facilities, two changing rooms and ten garbage receptacles and access roadways were upgraded, leading from Numbers 60-61, 61-62 and 62-63 villages and signs will be placed to indicate points of ingress and egress to the five miles long beach.

Persaud again appealed to visitors to care and protect the available amenities and refrain from littering the place, especially with bottles and abide the necessary traffic rules and regulations.

He said persons wishing to do business at the beach should apply to the Committee and he encouraged more interested persons, groups and organisations to join in the further development and maintenance of the resort.
