MEXICO CITY, Mexico, CMC - Guyana's British, Common-wealth and European middleweight boxing champion Howard Eastman has jumped from number nine to two in the latest World Boxing Council (WBC) ratings.

Eastman was rewarded for his four swift victories in the past five months with the significant leap up the WBC list released this week, as he takes aim at another crack at a world title.

The ranking now sets up Eastman for a shot at the WBC champion Bernard Hopkins, who has Frenchman Morrade Hakker as the number one contender.

In November 2001, Eastman lost a disputed points decision to American William Joppy when the two met for the World Boxing Association (WBA) title.
