At a reception at the GUYSUCO Senior Staff Club at Skeldon on Saturday night, President Jagdeo said such an arrangement could “lead to a dictatorship” and institutionalized racism.

“Clearly the advocates don’t know what they’re talking about,” the Head of State told a large gathering of invitees at the event.

He noted that it was important for people to learn to build a culture of debate, something that can be facilitated with the implementation of measures under a joint communiqué between Government and the main opposition People’s National Congress-Reform (PNC-R), which is helping to make Parliament more deliberative, and allow greater political stability.

Mr. Jagdeo briefed Berbicians on the Government’s political and economic agenda, during a tight Saturday/Schedule that included the commissioning of the President’s Youth Choice Initiative (PYCI) Projects and community meetings. He also reported on international cooperation among upcoming Presidential visits to India and Brazil.
