193 complaints made against Police in '03

THE Office of Professional Responsibility in the Guyana Police Force continues its efforts to enhance and preserve the image of the Guyana Police Force by ensuring that complaints/allegations thoroughly investigated and appropriate sanctions implemented where necessary.

In this regard, for the year 2003, a total of 193 such reports were made against members of the Force resulting in criminal and departmental charges, and warnings et al as shown below:

Criminal Charges (Court) - 7

Departmental charges - 17

Warning - 28

Unsubstantiated/insufficient evidence, etc - 77

Investigation ongoing - 31

Pending legal advice - 33

These reports Re: Complaints/Allegations were made in all Divisions of the Force as indicated below:

'A' Division (Georgetown and East Bank) - 94

'B' Division (East Berbice/Corentyne) - 17

'C' Division (East Coast Demerara) - 33

'D' Division (West Demerara) - 29

'E & F' Division (Linden and Interior locations) - 13

'G' Division (Essequibo Coast and Islands) - 7
