Guyanese Dyanlall Persaud appeared in the Siparia magistrate's court, Trinidad yesterday charged with murder.

Persaud, 27, was charged for killing Rishi Nandlal, who he allegedly chopped to death. He is also alleged to have burnt the body and buried it under a heap of debris.

Meanwhile, the victim's sister Jasodra Mahase, was also charged yesterday for malicious wounding after she allegedly attacked Persaud.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when police had escorted Persaud back to the scene of the murder to conduct further investigations.

Mahase, who was present at the time, reportedly used a brick to hit Persaud on the head. She claims that he made derisive remarks and this prompted her action.

She was released on a $7,000 bond and is expected to return to court today, when Persaud will also make his second appearance.
