GUYANA’S first world title clash between Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil and American Kathy Rivers will be staged at the National Park on May 29, to be attended by the country’s two reigning world champions.

Holland’s Entertainment Promotions (HEP) chose the National Park, having also considered the GCC ground, Bourda, aiming to stage the historic card as an open event.

HEP’s Managing Director, Carwyn Holland, told Chronicle Sport yesterday that he chose the National Park over the GCC because of the prevailing weather conditions.

The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall was ruled out because the promoters anticipated that the venue would be too small for the crowd anticipated for an event of such magnitude.

Holland also disclosed that World Boxing Council Cruiserweight champion Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite and World Boxing Association Junior Welterweight champion ‘Vicious’ Vivian Harris will be coming to witness the fight.

HEP has dubbed the card ‘Clash at the Park’, featuring another title bout in which Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore will meet Elvis Martinez of the Dominican Republic for the Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) bantamweight belt.

Another female encounter is carded pitting Pamela ‘Grenade’ London against Geraldine Cox. However, London was also named standby for the O’Neil/Rivers clash, should one of them be unable to take the ring.

However, Holland said ‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton’s defence of his CABOFE junior middleweight belt was yet to be finalised.

The promoter who is also Dalton’s manager disclosed that the boxer could fight a Puerto Rican, if the Jamaican based in the USA is not contacted on time.

“Dalton has to fight a boxer of repute to rise to the world ranking,” Holland declared.

Also on the card, Lennox ‘Handsome Boy’ Allen will take on Wayne Briggs and James Walcott will meet Troy Lewis. (Isaiah Chappelle)
