Movie night, HIV/STI awarenessand summer camps at Red Cross

The Guyana Red Cross Society will be busy over the next few months with such events as a fund-raising movie night, HIV/STI awareness, and a first-aid summer camp. The society was also scheduled to hold a complimentary nutrition and high blood pressure workshop yesterday and this is to be repeated on July 29 at 5 pm at the society's Eve Leary headquarters.

According to a release from the society, this workshop will offer information on basic healthy nutrition as well as food choice and preparation tips to help prevent and control high blood pressure. For more information on this course, contact Tara at 226-0384 or 226-5174.

The fund-raising movie night is billed for July 23 at the society's headquarters and the feature attractions are the new Disney hit Shrek 2 and Spiderman 2. Entrance is $200 while snacks and cold beverages will be on sale.

The programme on HIV/STI awareness will be held during July-September and the sessions are free and open to youths from ages 12 to 24. More details on this programme can be obtained from Leslie, Karyne or Ewin at the Red Cross headquarters - 226-0384.

And from August 2-6 and August 16-20, the association will hold first-aid summer camps. According to the release, these camps are for children ages 6-13 and they will get the opportunity to learn first-id and safety skills.

These are day-camps which start at 9 am and run until 3 pm.
