The Unity of the Nation group is holding its annual unity walk on Emancipation Day in New Amsterdam, Berbice, a press release from coordinator Eli Hazel said.

The walk on Sunday, August 1 is scheduled to move off at 5:30 am from opposite the New Amsterdam Town Hall and proceed along Water Street into Vryheid Street to Republic Road along Philadelphia Street into Main Street to Esplanade Park where religious leaders would address the participants.

And jerseys inscribed with the words "Unity for the Nation 40" would be distributed to participants, because people over-40 must be able to influence the youths who are prone to racism, according to the press release.

The walk was first started in 2002 from the Lewis Minor Tollgate and in 2003 from the Canje Welfare Centre. This year the walk is being held to promote more unity and racial harmony in the region, and it would be going around the town of New Amsterdam. Interested persons can obtain more information on the walk from Hazel via 333-3309.
