To date, 11 cases of suicide have been recorded in Berbice for this year. A source from the Guyana Police Force said that three of these were reported at the Whim Police Station and two at the Fort Wellington Station. Albion , Blairmont, Black Bush Polder, Number Fifty-One and Springlands Police Stations recorded one case each.

Budnauth Kidnauth of Grant 1806 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne was the last recorded case. He reportedly committed suicide on February 26 at his home. The 47-year-old watchman was said to be an alcoholic and lived with his two children.

On the day of the incident, they had left him home alone and upon their return, discovered him hanging from the roof with a rope around his neck. A plastic chair was said to be beneath his feet.

He was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
