NEW YORK CITY, New York (CMC) – The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) has reversed the result of last Thursday’s US Boxing Association (USBA) light middleweight title fight between Guyana’s Raul Frank and American Terrance Cauthen.

Frank, 38, was awarded victory by a seventh-round technical knockout but the NYSAC overruled the decision Wednesday and declared the bout a no-decision.

Cauthen’s handlers had protested that Cauthen was stopped because of an accidental clash of heads that the referee did not see during the bout at the Paradise Theatre in the Bronx.

But Cauthen's promoter Joe DeGuardia is not satisfied with this latest ruling.

DeGuardia is not settling for the no-decision result and is going for a win for his fighter, who was leading 60-54, 60-54, 59-55 on the cards when he was virtually knocked out by a head-butt.

"The decision made by the NYSAC is the first step in ensuring a just result in the fight," DeGuardia said in a Fightnews web site story.

"I anticipate that after a full hearing on the matter the NYSAC will declare Terrance Cauthen a technical decision winner as the rules seem to require going to the scorecards after an unintentional head-butt,” he added.

Both the Terrance Cauthen and Raul Frank camps are expected to appeal the decision.

In any event, with the new no-decision ruling, Cauthen retains the USBA light middleweight championship belt.

With this new result, the veteran Frank’s record is 27 wins (14 knockouts) against five losses and three draws, while Cauthen, 30, has 32 wins (9 knockouts) against three defeats.
