No discrimination on basis of sexual orientation
Dear Editor,
In Sunday Stabroek 21 Oct, one of the famous Guyanese profiled is Lord Waheed Alli. In addition to having achieved all that was mentioned, and being the youngest member of the House of Lords in the UK, Lord Alli is credited with being the first openly gay peer and has advocated changes in the UK laws to mainstream alternative sexualities. (check the BBC website at http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/newsid_1047000/1047062.stm ).
Yours faithfully,

There is no mention in the article whether Mr Alli was one of the British of Guyanese origins given an award. However, the laws in the UK which prevent discrimination against sexual orientation no doubt have helped people like Lord Alli to achieve what they have. Surely in Guyana our constitution should be amended accordingly to ensure that every citizen in Guyana has access to all rights regardless of gender, race, age and sexual orientation.
