Joey seems out of touch
Dear Editor,
Dr. Joey Jagan seems to have little background knowledge of the process regarding the UN involvement in the Guyana/Venezuela border issue. This is noticeable in his letter [ please note: link provided by LOSP web site ] (3.12.2001). Dr. Joey Jagan, as a politician, should know that under the Geneva Agreement of 1965, both Governments requested the UN Secretary General to come up with a means for a solution. This followed the scrapping of the Protocol of Port of Spain in 1982. So there is no need call on the UN now to find a solution since the UN is already involved.
Yours faithfully,

With regards to his reference to President Jagdeo's visit to Cuba, Dr. Joey Jagan sees this as invigorating ties with Cuba, and feels this is leftist policy, deliberately forgetting that ties have always existed (they do not need to be invigorated), and that leaders of CARICOM countries have been making regular visits to Cuba before President Jagdeo went there. Further, such ties were always supported by President Cheddi Jagan, the father of Dr. Joey Jagan.
I notice, too, that he always refers to the so-called "Gang of 8". For the benefit of myself and all others who are assaulted with this numerical reference, can Dr. Joey Jagan be forthright and name his so-called "Gang of 8"?
