GOLDEN Arrow, of Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, has emerged overall winner in this year's Mash Masquerade Bands competition.

Second place went to Strange Cargo of Victoria, East Coast Demerara and third place to Caricom Queen, again of Pouderoyen.

The results are based on the Mash Day performances of the eight bands entered for the competition this year.

Still to come, however, are the results for titles such as Best `Mad Bull', `Image', `Stilt Dancer' and `Bam-Bam (Mother) Sally'.

According to convenor, Mr Lancelot Wills, the judges looked at such aspects as display, types of images used, and quality of costumes.

Most of the bands, he said, had Mother Sallys and Mad Bulls, but only two had Stilt Dancers, and these were the bands belonging to the Blackett brothers of Pouderoyen, namely Golden Arrow and Caricom Queen.

Fire in de Land , Joker is Wild and Cabaca all hailed from the East Coast. Each had a horse, a snake and a peacock respectively among their images.

In the `Individual Flouncing' competitions which were run off on Mash Nite two Saturdays ago when the Calypso and Soca finals were held at the National Park, Fire in de Land, Joker is Wild and Ball a Fire took the first three positions respectively in the juvenile division. The winners were Kirk Warren, Junior Fraser and Jachin Small.

In the senior division, the winners were Adrian Anthony of Joker is Wild, Linden Clark of Ball a Fire and Joseph Bradford of Caricom Queen in that order.
