THIS country's first privately-owned and operated national flag carrier, GA 2000 celebrated the anniversary of its inauguration last Sunday, July 9.
In a statement to mark the occasion, the Chairman, Mr Yesu Persaud announced that the airline will soon be offering shares to the public, in a bid to increase the share capital for its expansion programme.
He said the new management of GA 2000 is to expand its fleet shortly and extend services through additional linkages being developed with "companion" airlines.
Meantime, the company looks to the future with optimism, said Persaud, alluding to the recent appointment of Mr Tom Scarlett as Chief Executive 0fficer.
The Chairman said Scarlett has, to his credit, a distinguished management career in the industry.
Persaud recalled a statement he, himself, made at the launch of the venture one year ago, that it was then making history.
He reflected, with pride, that GA 2000 has kept the flagship flying and is on the verge of expanding its horizons.
According to him, the airline is now better equipped to face the future with confidence, having learned from its experiences and overcome the challenges with which it was presented.
Persaud, on behalf of the firm, expressed thanks to the passengers, who, from the inception, put their faith in it.
He thanked the travel agencies for their support and employees for their loyalty, hard work and determination.
Scarlett said he is pleased at being given the privilege of taking GA 2000 forward in the new century.
He remarked that it is seldom a "young, small airline, operating with a single aircraft and beginning life with limited capital assets at its disposal, is able to so successfully complete its first year of operation."
Scarlett looks forward to the opportunities ahead for developing the national airline into a truly regional one, offering services to the Caribbean and the Americas.
He said, having introduced the Boeing 757, GA 2000 is pleased with the passenger loads which have been better than anticipated.
Scarlett reported that the airline has made good progress by converting the lease arrangement with the Australian carrier to a full dry lease, allowing travellers to be flown by an all Guyanese crew.
