NEW YORK, USA (CANA) - Guyana's World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Andrew `Six Head' Lewis is predicting he will win by knockout when he defends his title for the first time against American Larry Marks next week Saturday night.
Lewis, in an internet report on fightnews.com, said he is in good shape and will stop Marks, who is ranked sixth by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
"He can't last. He can't beat me. I'm going to take him out," said Lewis, who beat American James Page in seven rounds in February to become Guyana's first ever world boxing champion.
Promoter Bob Arum has big plans for Lewis if he gets past Marks, and his projection includes a big money showdown with the brilliant unbeaten American Sugar Shane Mosley, who is widely regarded as one of the world's best boxers, pound for pound.
"The one guy who will be able to beat Sugar Shane Mosley in the welterweight division is Andrew `Six Head' Lewis," said Arum. "Everything we're doing is to hopefully get that confrontation on ... later this year or early next year."
Arum said he is hoping to have `Six Head' and Sugar Shane share a card on HBO July 21 to set the table for the welterweight showdown of champions.
No negotiations have taken place, but Arum said he doesn't believe the Mosley camp would duck any challenge.
Lewis is excited about the possibility of stepping in the ring with Mosley.
"It's not a problem to fight Shane Mosley," said Lewis. "I know I'm gonna beat him. That's a dream fight."
Lewis' manager Nelson Fernandez says he believes `Six Head' can match Sugar Shane's speed and has more power.
"The big question is can Shane take the power of `Six', said Fernandez.
