BROOKLYN, New York, CANA - Guyanese super-lightweight boxer Vivian Harris has a pivotal 10-round contest against American Golden Johnson in Philadelphia on Friday night.
A victory for Harris could land him a world top-10 ranking as he aims to become Guyana's second world boxing champion, after Andrew `Sixhead' Lewis, the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion.
Harris has recovered from a stabbing incident in September last year, and returned to competitive boxing with an impressive first round knockout of Hector Arroyo last month.
"I am mentally strong right now, Johnson is a good fighter who comes at you but I know exactly how to do deal with him," Harris said in an interview on the "Fightnews" website.
Harris, who has a professional record of 17 wins (14 knockouts) against one loss and one draw, compiled an impressive amateur record of 45 wins against five defeats, and won the 1995 (New York) Metro championship and the New York Golden Gloves in 1997 before turning professional.
