Community Peace Project sessions open today
THE Community Peace Project of the United Nations Association of Guyana (UNAG), will at 9:00 hours today declare open a two-day training programme for Peace Councillors of Georgetown at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, Albert Street, Thomas Lands.
Tomorrow's sessions begin at 10:00 hours.
A release from UNAG's Secretariat in Georgetown said that the Peace Councillors will be trained in the following areas:
** Conflict Prevention
** Conflict Management (Theoretical and Practical aspects) and
** Conflict Resolution (The Peaceful settlement of Disputes)
Presenters will be Justice Donald Trotman, President of UNAG; Ms Jennifer Dewar, official of UNAG; Mr. Gordon Payne, University of Guyana Lecturer and Mrs. Sylvia Conway, Specialist Teacher and Social Worker.
A brief overview of the Community Peace Project will be given by Ms Hazel Griffith, Secretary of UNAG.
Chairpersons for the three sessions will be Georgetown Peace Council officials Mr. Ramkissoon Maharaj, Ms. Shirley Thomas, and Mr. Joseph Eastman.
The release said that the seminar is a part of UNAG's comprehensive programme of building and promoting peace in Guyana through the formation of Peace Councils, and by assisting residents in Guyanese communities to settle their disputes by peaceful means.
The Community Peace project is made possible through the support of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
The sessions will conclude with an evaluation exercise by participants and closing comments by presenters.
