TWO more Guyanese nationals have been reported missing following last week's attacks by terrorists on the United States.

They are Farah Khan, 32, of South Ozone Park, Queens, and Amarnauth Latchman of Long Island, New York.

Khan, a mother of two, aged 13 and 11, and wife of Nizam Khan, worked with the Cantor Fitzgerald firm in one of the towers of the World Trade Center, Guyana's Ambassador to Washington, Dr Odeen Ishmael reported yesterday.

Latest reports coming from the U.S on the overall number of persons officially listed as missing after the attacks by airline hijackers approached 6000, of which 5,422 were at the World Trade Center (WTC).

According to Ishmael, the Guyana Consulate in New York has, since the horrific incident, been contacting relatives of those reported missing and seeking to get information about others who may have been injured or perished.

He said Consul General, Mr. Brentnol Evans and others at the Consulate have been visiting a number of places in New York where the City Council has been posting lists containing the names of persons confirmed dead, to check for Guyanese nationals.

But he said one setback is that the U.S authorities, despite having a name(s), only release it after they have conducted checks against details such as social security and passport numbers, to avoid releasing incorrect information.

Ambassador Ishmael said too, both the Washington and New York offices have been contacting Guyanese community groups with a view to ascertaining information about missing persons.

Consul Evans has also been dropping in at "wakes" or "closures" being held by relatives for some of the missing, where it is expected that more information would be had.

Ambassador Ishmael is of the firm view that there may be more names, but that relatives have not yet listed them as they cling to that glimmer of hope that their loved one may still be alive.

The others reported missing are:
* Ronald Singh and his sister Kamini Singh, who both worked in a restaurant on the 107th floor of the WTC;

Meanwhile, Ishmael said the Organisation of American States (OAS) is to meet in a special session at 10:30 hrs. Today to discuss terrorism and adopt a resolution to condemn it and express solidarity with the U.S Government and its people.

Ambassador Ishmael disclosed that the session proposes to call for a special consultation meeting of Foreign Ministers to be convened on Friday.
