El Dorado Air approved to Georgetown-North America routes
EL DORADO Air Inc., a new airline registered in Guyana and owned by local and overseas-based Guyanese and foreigners, has obtained its licence to fly the Georgetown and New York and Georgetown and Toronto routes.
The airline, which is in the process of establishing its local office in the Action Tyre building at Croal and Sendall Place, Georgetown, received the documentation on November 9.
It plans to operate two direct flights weekly to each destination and recruitment of staff to facilitate the start-up of operations in the near future is ongoing.
The Chronicle understands that several former Guyana Airways 2000 staffers who lost their jobs when that airline went into liquidation, have been interviewed with a view to landing positions with El Dorado.
A source close to the airline said about 25 will be employed for the Georgetown office, and about 10 for the New York and Toronto offices, and these do not include pilots and cabin attendants.
A Boeing 727 aircraft has been acquired under a lease arrangement which has already been finalised to fly the routes.
The source said the airline is working on obtaining flight approval from the U.S. and Canadian governments, a process it hopes will conclude shortly.
