Local and foreign players are expected to be in battle for six days with next week Tuesday and Thursday being rest days.

Round one then starts at 13:00 hours, running to 18:00 hours. Round two and three will be staged on Sunday, the former from 11:00 - 16:00 hours and the latter from 18:00 - 23:00 hours.

The battles continue in round four on Monday from 18:30 - 23:00 hours. After the break on Tuesday, round five gets under way on Wednesday from 18:30 - 23:00 hours, then another break the next day.

Round six is fixed for Friday from 18:30 - 23:00 hours, and the seventh and final round will be on Saturday from 13:00 - 18:00 hours, with the presentation of prizes taking place shortly after.

The Georgetown Chess Club said the tournament is the start of reviving the local game in a structured way, leading to a resuscitation of the defunct Guyana Chess Federation.

Further plans include re-entering the international community as quickly as possible in the new year.
