Phase one of Number 63 project done
THE committee charged with managing the transformation of Number 63 beach, into a major Corentyne, Berbice tourist attraction, has reported the completion of phase one.
Chairman Krishendat Persaud said a three-lane driveway has been constructed at the entrance to the site and the roads leading there are now all-weather routes.
The initial stage of the project is estimated to cost approximately $2M with funding by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.
Mr. Persaud said preparatory work to upgrade another two access dams linking the Corentyne highway to Numbers 60 to 61 and Numbers 62 to 63 villages have also started.
The second phase involves installation of sanitary facilities along the five-mile long resort, building of recreational parks and restaurants.
A magistrate, as well, Persaud said several other businessmen have pledged support for the venture and one investor has shown interest in building an international hotel at the location.
Police are already patrolling the place on a regular basis and Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) Skeldon Estate and the Number 52 - 74 Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) are to play major role in the development, too.
