PRESIDENT Janet Jagan is leaving today for the United States for further evaluation of her medical condition, the Office of the President announced yesterday.

A statement from the office said that since returning from the Eric Williams Medical Centre in Trinidad where she underwent additional medical tests earlier this month, President Jagan has been at work while awaiting the analyses of the results of those overseas evaluations.

"It has now been decided that she would benefit even further from a more comprehensive evaluation of her medical condition that would include use of state-of-the-art cardiac imaging technology", the statement said.

The President is expected to return later this month after completion of the indicated management programme.

President Jagan was hospitalised a few weeks ago after complaining of chest and other body pains "during which a cardiac lesion was not excluded", the statement said.

Prime Minister Sam Hinds will perform the duties of the President during her absence from Guyana.
