PRIME Minister Sam Hinds says current acting General Manager of the Guyana Electricity Corporation (GEC), Mr. Robin Singh, had two years ago indicated he wanted to leave the power company as soon as the new managers were settled in.
He yesterday said a Chronicle headline last month which stated Singh was to be `axed' under privatisation was an "unfortunate use" of words which were not his.
Mr. Hinds said that in an interview on the matter he had acknowledged that there would "inevitably be some displacement of a few of the topmost managers but I thought they could be accommodated within the new organisation."
He said Singh had two years ago advised that he would prefer to leave the organisation "as soon as the new management had gotten on its feet."
"So there was no question at all of Mr. Singh being axed or even displaced because he had maintained his desire to leave the organisation as soon as the new team would have taken over", the Prime Minister told the Chronicle.
