FIRST Lady Varshnie (Uma) Jagdeo was born in the United Kingdom on January 25, 1970.
She was educated in the U.K. and has six GCE Ordinary Level passes and a diploma in Business and Finance.
A trained paralegal, Mrs. Jagdeo has worked for law firms in Guyana and the U.K.
She has been a member of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) branch in the U.K. for more than 10 years and has been heavily involved in political and social work in Guyana and the U.K.
She is studying for a degree in Social Sciences.
Her father, Mr. Beni Singh, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was actively engaged in the anti-colonial struggle as a member of the PPP.
Her mother, Mrs. Namatie Singh, is from Blenheim, Leguan.
