POLICE have charged Miss Guyana/Universe franchise holder Sri Yoogeandra with assaulting a trainer who was helping beauty contestants.
He appeared before Senior Magistrate Dawn Gregory-Barnes recently and was released on his own recognisance at the request of Defence Counsel K. Juman-Yassin.
The defendant denied that he assaulted 23-year old Shavern Bishop in a hotel at Mabaruma, North West District, last July 31.
The virtual complainant was introduced to Yoogeandra by a relative and she volunteered to assist with in the training of entrants for a pageant in Mabaruma.
Police said the victim and the defendant were staying in separate rooms at the same place and, as she was in the washroom, he entered and held her around the waist.
Bishop turned around and Yoogeandra kissed her, asking that she spend the night with him, in his apartment, according to the Prosecution narrative.
It said the young woman refused and, while she was in another part of the building, the defendant held her hand and repeated his request that she sleep with him.
Bishop later told some of her female friends and reported the matter to the Police.
The case will be called at Mabaruma Court on November 22.
