THE newly-formed civic group, Guyana Is First (GIF), launched an appeal yesterday to muster aid for flood victims in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
The initiative was launched at the Venezuelan local mission, an embassy official said yesterday.
According to the official, the group will begin receiving donations, in cash or kind, from 09:00hrs to 16:00hrs today at the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation, 220 Camp Street, two doors from the Lee's Funeral Home. The process will continue on Monday until the crisis is over.
Among items most needed are non-perishable foodstuff, blankets, long boots, children's diapers, sleeping bags, industrial and portable camping stoves, portable ice boxes, mosquito nets and camping lamps. There is also dire need for surgical equipment and saline solution.
Those wishing to make further enquiries about cash donations may either call the Venezuelan Embassy on 66749 and 61543 or the Venezuelan Institute on 61593.
