The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has appointed former television producer/hostess, Donna Shortgill as its new Executive Director.

Shortgill, who co-hosted the Guyana Television Broadcasting Company (GTV) morning show 'Guyana Today' and the children's programme 'CHILL', assumed her new responsibilities from the beginning of this month. She takes over from Colette McDermott who resigned with effect from December 31, 1999.

Shortgill who remigrated to Guyana from the United Kingdom a couple of years ago worked in several establishments in the UK, including travel and shipping, the British Electricity Board and a well-known drama school where she was a former student and tutor.

One of Shortgill's first assignments in her new job will be to attend a trade fair in the Netherlands next week. She will be accompanied by THAG's Executive member and tour operator of Wilderness Explorers, Tony Thorne.

Former GTV General Manager, Ryhaan Shah had been originally identified to fill the vacancy created by McDermott's resignation. Shah had begun a familiarisation programme with THAG last month but did not take up the post in January because of family commitments, THAG President Shaun McGrath told Stabroek News on Tuesday.
