The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is supporting everything said by the police at their press conference on Wednesday and in their releases about Tuesday's operation against Linden London, popularly known as 'Blackie'.

London was killed after being engaged in an 11-hour shoot-out with police and army units at the Toucan Guest House, Eccles, East Bank Demerara where he was holed up.

A press release which the GDF issued on Thursday but was only made available to Stabroek News yesterday due to an oversight by the army, said that it wished to dispel the perception "that there are differences between the GDF and the police.

"The GDF wishes to state quite categorically that that is not so and that a cordial, amicable and professional relationship exists between the two organisations. Both organisations are committed to working together in harmony and in support of each other to address issues of national concern, which fall within their purview."

The release explained the difference in the focus in the releases issued by the two organisations as being due to the GDF finding it "important to highlight the bravery of Private [Lennox] Harvey."

On the other hand, the release said, "the police as the lead agency in law enforcement issues correctly focused on the entire operation at their press conference and in their releases to the press."
