Roraima Bikers' Warren Christopher McKay returned one hour 26 minutes to capture the National Sports Commission (NSC) sponsored Mashramani feature 35-lap cycle race at the National Park's inner circuit on Saturday. He also rode off with five of the eight prime prizes that were at stake.

Occupying the other top positions were Andrew Niles, Leer Nunes, Tyrone Hamilton, Marlon Morrison (the winner of the previous Saturday's feature event at the same venue) and Andrew Reece respectively. Hamilton took two primes prizes and Nunes the other.

After completing the first lap, the 20 wheelers went into the second in indian file with Hamilton leading Mckay, however, at the completion of the second lap, Hamilton, McKay, Nunes and Niles broke from the others and established a healthy 100 metres lead.

The four maintained their position at the head of affairs for another 15 laps before Hamilton developed mechanical problems and dropped back. He was `picked up' by the second group comprising Reece, Morrison and Jaikarran Sahadeo who were some 1000 metres in arrears.

The pattern remained the same for the other 19 laps and when the front group received the bell for the final lap, McKay jumped the front pack but was quickly pursued by Niles and Nunes. The two managed to `suck' him in 1000 metres from the finish.

As the trio approached the 150 metres marker, Niles `jumped' but was picked up by McKay who drew level at the 100 metres mark and surged ahead from the 75 metre point and eased while crossing the finish line.

After the event, Hamilton told Stabroek Sport that his quick release pin became unfastened twice and both times he had to stop to get it corrected.

In other results from the day's programme organised by cycle coach Hassan Mohammed, Onika Massay, grand daughter of the late Barry Massay took the ladies 3-lap race. Orin Agard won the veterans 5-lap event from Kenrick Vanderstoop and Aubrey Gravesande respectively.

The juveniles 10-lapper was won by Gerald Fowler. Second was Gordon Kennedy and third Andrew Persaud.

John Hamilton took the 5-lap race for upright cyclists from Sorchanno Chan and Curtis Smith respectively while Geron Williams won the boys 6-9 years old 1-lap BMX event from Johnathan Faugondes. On the distaff side, Anika Blackman took top honours.

Christopher McIntosh continues to dominate the BMX boys 9-12 years 2-lap event. On Saturday he won from Javid Mohamed and Geron Williams respectively.

Before assisting with the presentation of prizes to the respective winners, Director of Sports Neil Kumar and NSC's chairman, Conrad Plummer made short addresses to the cyclists and encouraged them to strive for success.

The cyclists were also invited to participate in the Inter-Guianas Triathlon which is slated to commence in French Guiana in April. The three day event will end in Guyana with the second leg slated for Suriname.
