While Barbados is a "star performer" for international financial agencies, Guyana is seen as a country at the "crossroads".

This was the description by Orsalia Kalantzopoulos, World Bank's director for Latin America and the Caribbean recently as she addressed reporters in the region at an IMF/CDB press forum in Barbados recently.

Kalantzopoulos explained that only a few years ago there was a return to democracy in Guyana and the country is in the throes of a major evolution, with a new generation of politicians taking over.

"There is a lot of dynamism and willingness to move forward and make changes and [create an] impact," Kalantzopoulos told Stabroek News when asked to elaborate on her statement.

She said it was great to see differences of the past being reduced and there was a greater consensus for a development agenda.
