The Government of Guyana has issued a statement repudiating a Caribbean News Agency (CANA) report accusing the police and government officials of complicity with deceased bandit Linden `Blackie' London.
In a Ministry of Information press release yesterday, the government described the CANA report as "baseless" and "wicked."
"The government of Guyana further vehemently condemns CANA for publishing outrageous anti-government propaganda without any recourse whatsoever to verification or comment from the government," the statement read.
"It is the belief of the Government of Guyana that CANA has acted irresponsibly by parroting these blatant lies which have been peddled by propagandists linked to the opposition Peoples National Congress (PNC)," it continued.
The government said it sees this latest "invention" as part of a plot to divert attention from the PNC which it stated continues to face public outrage for its leader's "glorification" of the dead bandit.
