Eloi DeBritto, for whom an arrest warrant was issued in connection with the shooting of a taxi driver two Fridays ago, was on Thursday arrested by police.

A police source said sometime on Thursday afternoon, a patrol was in the Leopold Street area carrying out investigations when they saw a man acting in a suspicious manner. He was ordered to stop and police recognised him as being the wanted man. He was arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station where, the source said, further investigations are being carried out.

DeBritto called Buckman, of 17 James and Hogg Streets, Albouystown, is charged jointly with two other men for attempting to rob Yuppies Depot manageress, Maimoon Ali, of over $400,000 in cash and a similar amount in cheques. He is also charged with attempting to murder Righbert Boatswain, a taxi driver, on the same day.

The two other men, Trevor Gaspar, 24, of 37 Ketley Street, Charlestown and Ian Rodrigues, 25, of 71 Middle Road, La Penitence, were on Wednesday placed on $200,000 bail each by Principal Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen.

Meanwhile, Boatswain has been discharged from the Georgetown Hospital although one of the bullets is still lodged in him. Speaking with Stabroek News from his home yesterday morning, Boatswain said that he was doing fine and an operation will be done shortly to remove the second bullet.
