The UN Good Officer, appointed by the UN Secretary-General to propose a means of settlement for the peaceful resolution of the Guyana/Venezuela border controversy met the facilitators of the two countries earlier this month.
It was their first meeting since Barbadian Oliver Jackman took over from Sir Alister McIntyre as Good Officer in November.
A report in a recent issue of the Venezuelan daily, El Nacional said that the meeting, which took place at the UN headquarters in New York, was a getting-to-know-you session and no matters of substance were on the agenda.
According to the report, a review of the process was done and the procedure for convening subsequent meetings was agreed. Jackman, Guyana's facilitator Ralph Ramkarran, SC and his Venezuelan counterpart are scheduled to meet in July, according to the report, and they have already agreed the agenda of the meeting.
Jackman earlier this year visited both Guyana and Venezuela for talks with their Presidents, Bharrat Jagdeo and Hugo Chavez.
