A police officer is helping the US authorities in their investigation of the visa sale scam which was uncovered at the US embassy earlier this year.
Stabroek News has learnt that a member of the Target Special Force (TSF) was interrogated by the US federal authorities in the US and is due to return shortly to testify before a grand jury.
Official sources have toldStabroek News that a number of businessmen have also been fingered and that they too are to travel to the US to assist the investigation.
The TSF policeman was named by the federal authorities when US Economic Affairs Officer, Thomas Carroll, appeared in a Chicago court to answer charges related to the visa sale scam. While in the US the officer's life was threatened and he was in protective custody until his departure.
A government official has told Stabroek News that where offences under Guyana laws have been committed these persons would be prosecuted.
A former local staffer, Eton Cordis, who was questioned by local and US federal investigators is now before the courts on six charges of corrupt transaction and is on $483,000 bail.
Carroll and West Demerara businessman, Halim Khan, are before the court to answer charges of bribery, producing false visas and conspiring to commit visa fraud.
Carroll will be changing his plea when he appears in court on November 16, and Khan is likely to change his plea too when he appears in court on Friday.
