Referee Kenny Bayless' decision to stop Saturday night's fight between Andrew Lewis and James Page has been hailed by Page's trainer Yoel Judah. In an interview with Stabroek Sport Judah said that his fighter could have been seriously hurt if the fight was allowed to continue.

Bayless stopped the fight in after 1 minute 13 seconds of the seventh round when a single right hook from Lewis decked Page for the second time in the one sided contest.

"James has got a chin of iron but how long could he take the right hook Lewis kept catching him with. I'm glad that they stopped it when they did or he would have been seriously hurt. It was only a matter of time. Page was looking for one shot and this guy was hitting him with five and six shots at a time," Judah said.

"He (Page) was psyched, he was ready physically. He had everything going for him but he just don't listen. He did what he wanted to do and was looking for just one shot. Lewis on the other hand was real sharp. I'm impressed with his performance. He went in there and did what had to be done. He boxed, punched slipped punches and all that," Judah said.

"Our fight plan was to have Page use his jab and back this kid up. James could punch. I told him no one punch at a time and he kept giving me just that. He just wouldn't listen," said Judah.

Judah, the father of International Boxing Federation junior welterweight champion Zab Judah, was ambivalent when asked if he will continue to work with Page. "I really don't know. He has got to change his attitude or I wouldn't touch him no more," the elder Judah declared.

Lewis dominated the entire fight knocking down Page twice in the process to take the WBA welterweight crown. His performance has earned him a house and land put up by the government of Guyana.

Despite word from his trainer that he was "OK", Page never turned up for the post fight press conference where Lewis snatched the opportunity to triumphantly bask in the glow of victory.
