North American Airlines (NAA) plans to increase its twice weekly
non-stop flights between Georgetown and New York to five from June 18
with the lease of a new 757 aircraft.
A release from PR Counsellors said that NAA is awaiting approval from
the Civil Aviation Department for its expanded schedule.
"I am confident we can maintain this schedule during the peak
period and stimulate the market to make it work," NAA Vice
President for Marketing Bruno Scaldaferri assured local agents during
a recent visit to Guyana.
He was speaking to the agents at the Georgetown Club where a review
of the airline was done.
According to the release, the new 757 will be NAA's third and
Scaldaferri spoke optimistically of the airline's continued and
expanding presence in the Guyana market.
The vice president disclosed that the airline had already begun talks
with American tour operators to have Guyana included as a destination
in their offerings.
The airline began servicing the Georgetown/New York route in July of
1999 and switched from charters to a regularly scheduled service in
June of last year.
Scaldaferri said that over the period of its operations, NAA had seen
its market share "steadily improve" and attributed this
success to the airline's consistently reliable service.
"We have been told that NAA is the best service between New York
and Georgetown and our aim is to keep it that way," he added.
The release said that in thanking local travel agents for the
confidence they had shown in NAA, Scaldaferri unfolded an attractive
package of discounts and other frequent flyer benefits to encourage
persons to fly with the airline.
The Georgetown/New York route was NAA's only scheduled service and
the airline has seen some growth opportunities which it is gearing to
take advantage of.
NAA's local office is managed by Jenny DeBarros and Junior Horatio.
