The public is being invited to participate in a walk for peace,
unity and reconciliation which is scheduled to move off from the Umana
Yana tomorrow at 4.00 pm.
The event is being organised by a group of concerned Guyanese who say
they share a common concern and growing sense of frustration and
helplessness about the current political crisis in Guyana.
According to a press release, the group wishes among other things:
* that leaders will bring Guyana back from the brink by finding a way
to really talk and listen to each other;
* for a system of government that is genuinely representative;
* for the reconvening of the Constitution Reform Commission to
examine viable options in the light of the current political impasse;
* for the escalating problems of race relations to be acknowledged
and for some evidence of real efforts to deal with those problems;
* for the development of a level of credibility and professionalism
by the security forces;
* for adherence by all to the highest principles of the rule of law
which will enable everyone to exist in harmony in a safe and secure
environment;
* for recognition of the impact that an irresponsible media can have
on society and measures to deal with this issue;
* for the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The walk will be along High, Lamaha and East streets and North Road,
returning via Church, Camp, Lamaha and High Streets.
Participants are advised to wear any colour of the Golden Arrowhead.
