WBA welterweight champion Andrew `Sixhead' Lewis may soon be the proud owner of two vehicles compliments of Car Care Enterprise and King Solomon's Auto Sales.
The announcement of the promises was made at a function held yesterday by the African Cultural Develop-ment Association to honour Lewis.
It was disclosed that Ministerial Adviser on Empowerment Odinga Lumumba was instrumental in realising the gift from King Solomon's Auto Sales.
Stanford Soloman, proprietor of the company confirmed that he will give the welterweight champ a Toyota Mark 11 car, when contacted by Stabroek News yesterday in Miami, United States. He said the vehicle will be presented to Lewis as soon as government formalities are concluded.
Solomon explained that Lewis world title win, the first by a Guyanese representative, was an inspiration to young people.
Efforts to get a comment from the owners of Car Care were unsuccessful yesterday.
Lewis, who will now be returning to his base in the U.S. on Thursday, said that he was thankful for the gesture. The champion was also rechristened with the name Koby by the African Cultural and Development Association.
The name means maximum warrior, Aisha Jean Baptiste of ACDA said. ACDA presented Lewis with a gold chain while the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), which had presented Lewis with a cellular phone on his arrival in Guyana, gave him a replacement which it is understood could be used internationally. He also was presented with a number of GT&T jerseys and other souvenir items.
Lewis visited the telephone company yesterday and he was also the guest of Demerara Distillers Ltd which gave him a plaque. The beverage company also donated a supply of boxing equipment for use at the Andrew Lewis Gym when it is rehabilitated. The WBA champ accepted the gear on behalf of the gym. (Steve Ninvalle)
