President Janet Jagan is expected to leave after lunch today for the Mount Hope Hospital in Trinidad where she is due to undergo a thallium scan before returning home on Saturday.

Information Minister, Moses Nagamootoo, confirmed Mrs Jagan's departure for Trinidad but was not in a position to pronounce on the type of tests she has to undergo.

Mrs Jagan, 79, took ill last Wednesday and was diagnosed to be suffering from angina, a heart condition.

Nagamootoo said he is not certain whether Dr Omar Khan will be looking at Mrs Jagan but he understands that she is to undergo some nuclear tests.

Dr Khan is the head of the Radiology Department at the Mount Hope Hospital and practices nuclear medicine. A medical expert said that the test which can be carried out will be a thallium scan to check on the condition of the heart.

Mrs Jagan is expected to resume her duties as President next week but at a reduced pace. The President was discharged from the St Joseph's Mercy Hospital last Saturday and was resting at home. She visited her resident physician, Dr Hughley Hanoman yesterday, prior to her scheduled departure today.
