The seven people who were murdered last week at Buxton will be laid to rest today in Buxton.
The funeral for the seven people will take place on the same day that their murderer, Raul Herod, will be buried at a separate location.
Family members have informed this newspaper that the seven people--97-year-old Angela Herod; 60-year-old Shirley Cole-Herod; Patricia Harris, 58; Jonelle and Erwin Herod aged 11 and 15; 17-year-old Rodel Herod, Adele Herod aged 14 years--will be laid to rest in the Buxton cemetery.
The deceased will be removed from the Sandy's Funeral Parlour in Lodge at around 1330 hrs (1:30 pm), thence to the St Augustine Anglican Church in Buxton for the funeral service. Following that they will be laid to rest in the Buxton cemetery in closed coffins.
Meanwhile, Raul Herod, the man responsible for what has come to be known as the 'Buxton bloodbath', will be buried at Le Repentir cemetery.
His funeral arrangements have been broadcast over the radio, and Stabroek News understands that the remains of the 36-year-old will be removed from Lyken's Funeral Parlour and interred in a mid afternoon ceremony.
Raul Herod went on an early morning killing spree on July 7, taking the lives of his grandmother Angela, mother Shirley, aunt Patricia, his two children Rodel and Adele and his niece and nephew Erwin and Jonelle. The former Securicor operations supervisor, used a .32 Taurus pistol belonging to the company to commit the crime. He then set fire to the family home at Lot 121 Sideline Dam, Buxton before shooting himself.
According to recently released autopsy results, Herod and one of the little girls he killed were burnt alive while bleeding from gunshot wounds. The wounds sustained by the three women--Angela, Patricia and Shirley--were, however, fatal and they were not alive during the fire.
The autopsy was performed by Government Forensic Pathologist, Dr Leslie Mootoo, and also revealed that Erwin, who was shot outside the family home, died as a result of a gunshot wound to the left lung.
The lone survivor of the tragedy was Herod's son, Jermaine, who survived being shot in the jaw.
