North American Airlines (NAA) made an impressive entry into the Guyana market when its inaugural flight departed for New York on time yesterday morning.

Eighty passengers were efficiently checked-in by the staff of Roraima Airways Ltd (RAL), the company that is contracted to do the ground handling for NAA, enabling the flight to leave at exactly 0925 hrs.

Sales Manager of NAA's office in Guyana, Junior Horatio, a former Guyana Airways Corporation manager, said the response to the flight had been good. He said he was not worried about competition from the other airlines.

According to Horatio, competition was good for the consumers, many of whom have had bad experiences with international air transport in the past. He said it was good that Guyanese, after decades, could once again shop around for the best deal when travelling.

Horatio said the charter service would be a scheduled one operating in the high as well as the low season. It would operate twice weekly, departing the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri at 1810 hrs on Mondays and 0925 hrs on Fridays.

NAA has joined GA 2000 and BWIA in offering flights to the United States.
