Jermaine Herod, the lone survivor of the Buxton bloodbath yesterday had the bullet lodged in his jaw removed.
The nine-year-old has been a patient at the Georgetown Hospital since the night of July 7 when his father, Raul Herod, opened fire with a .32 Taurus revolver killing seven persons. Jermaine Herod had escaped after being shot. Those killed were ninety-seven-year old Angela Herod; Shirley Cole-Herod; Patricia Harris; Jonelle Herod; Erwin Herod; Rondel Herod and Adele Nandy Herod.
Now that the bullet has been removed Herod is expected to make a speedy recovery.
Hospital authorities are reported to have started making enquiries about a suitable home for the only survivor in what is said to be the country's largest family mass murder and suicide.
According to reports, two of Herod's aunts want him to live with them.
Social workers at the hospital are conducting investigations to ensure that the home where the child is placed is conducive to good upbringing.
A report is expected to be submitted to the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, George Munroe, within a week's time. (Albert Alstrom)
