Guyana dollar down in first quarter

The Guyana dollar is still losing value, according to statistics from the Bank of Guyana.

For the first three months of this year the local currency declined from $172.68 to $178.68 against the US dollar, a drop of 3.47%, a recent Guyana Statistical Bulletin said. Against the pound sterling the Guyana dollar declined by 3.7% to $282.38 from $272.16 in January. And the Canadian dollar fetched $114.02 as opposed to $107.05 at the beginning of the year.

Since January of 1996 the Guyana dollar has lost over a quarter of its buying power.
