A response to the invitation extended by President Bharrat Jagdeo to PNC leader, Desmond Hoyte, is expected to be sent shortly.
Hoyte told Stabroek News yesterday that the invitation was being considered by his policy team and that a response would be forwarded within a week.
The invitation to Hoyte, Stabroek News understands, was dispatched on August 16, and did not indicate any issues that President Jagdeo would like to discuss with Hoyte.
Hoyte acknowledged that the invitation was signed by Jagdeo in his capacity as President but declined to comment on whether he would treat it in the same way as he had treated a similar invitation extended to him by former president Janet Jagan.
Hoyte had met Mrs Jagan, but only in her capacity as representative of the PPP/Civic. Hoyte and Mrs Jagan had signed the CARICOM-brokered Herdmanston Accord and St Lucia Statement as representatives of their respective parties. Both agreements provide for periodic meetings between the representatives to review the progress made in implementing their provisions.
Also, Hoyte has always insisted, in reacting to indications of Mrs Jagan's willingness to meet him, that there should be an agreed agenda in addition to an understanding as to what capacity Mrs Jagan was meeting him.
The two last met in April prior to the CARICOM bureau meeting in Suriname. At that meeting CARICOM facilitator, Maurice King, was present but though efforts were made to revive the stalled dialogue process, the parties were unable to reach any agreement.
Jagdeo had said in his inaugural speech as President that Guyana needed national cohesion to move forward and he held himself out as providing that opportunity.
