President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday asserted that he wanted inclusiveness to be an essential feature of his administration, when he met reporters for the first time since becoming president.

As such, he told them there would be no limit to the time he would wait for a response to his invitation to PNC leader, Desmond Hoyte to meet him.

However, he said that while waiting for a response from Hoyte the business of the country has to go on. "I said that there is no time limit to reaching out as I want this to be an essential feature of my administration even when it is not reciprocated, as the country cannot afford less."

Hoyte has told Stabroek News that a response to the invitation would be sent at the weekend.

President Jagdeo stressed that he was President of Guyana and not the leader of the PPP/Civic nor its representative under the CARICOM-brokered Herdmanston Accord. He said that his intention was to meet Hoyte in the same capacity as he met Manzoor Nadir, the leader of The United Force and Dr Rupert Roopnaraine, the Alliance for Guyana parliamentarian.

Jagdeo observed that he had not made public the contents of his letter to Hoyte, explaining that in the past, unfortunately, disclosures from both sides were made even before they had reached their recipients. He said that he intended to have the exchanges remain confidential lest they be driven by the press.

Jagdeo said though that he expected the dialogue process being conducted between the PPP/Civic and the PNC would contribute to an enhancement of the relations between the two parties.
